Have you ever wanted to observe a professional pianist while they practice for upcoming concerts? Dr. Sungeun Kim, Professor of Piano at the Baldwin Wallace University Conservatory of Performing Arts and Steinway Artist, has invited us to do just that by utilizing the newest direct communication technology of the Steinway Spirio.
You can experience Dr. Kim’s practice session like a “fly on the wall” as it will all be transmitted live to our concert hall over Spirio video. In addition, as she practices at BW, the Spirio piano with at OMEA will play, duplicating the performance for all of us “flies” to experience as well.
Be sure to take notes! Immediately following the Spiriocast, our observing audience will enter a guided discussion with Andrew Maust, Steinway K-12 and Service Director. Here are some prompts for your consideration: How is Dr. Kim creating a stylistically appropriate interpretation and how might that be taught? What’s one technique that Dr. Kim is demonstrating and how would you teach it to students of different ages and levels? What advice do you give to students as they prepare for a performance?
